Ideas for Use

For those not yet learning decimals, the ten thousands and hundred thousands dice may be added to a standard place value set. Roll the dice and arrange them in order from largest to smallest. Then have the student write or say the number correctly.

These dice also help with expanded notation. To write a number in expanded notation, simply copy what is on each die and put a plus sign in between each number.

3,000,000 + 200,00 + 50,000 + 5,000 + 100 + 70 + 9

Then take out all the extra zeros to write the number in its standard form.

3,000,000 + 200,00 + 50,000 + 5,000 + 100 + 70 + 9 = 3,255,179
