Detailed Product Description

Roll all six dice and try to get a rainbow (one of each color)! Different color combinations are worth varying amounts of points. Roll your way to victory by collecting the most points as you learn about primary and secondary colors.

Roll a Rainbow

Object: Be the first person to collect 50 points.

Game Needs: pencil and paper for keeping score, six colored dice

To Begin: Choose a score keeper and a judge. The judge verifies that the score keeper's work is accurate. The first person rolls the dice and calculates the score for that roll. All the other players take a turn doing the same. The person with the highest score will go first. In case of a tie the players with a tie roll again until a starter is determined.

To Play: Roll all six dice. If a die bounces out of the play area, roll it again. Take out any dice worth points after each roll. These form your running score for the round. Roll the remaining dice, removing any dice worth points and adding them to your running total. If you are ever able to set aside all six dice, you may roll all of your dice again and keep building your running total. If ever you are unable to set aside any dice (no dice are worth points), a thunderstorm has come and ruined your rainbow. You lose all your points for that turn, and your turn is over.

If at any time you wish to stop rolling the dice and just keep the points that you have, you may do so. Note: A rainbow (or any other combination) must be rolled at the same time. You may not collect a rainbow over the course of two or more rolls.

To End the Game: The first person to reach 50 points wins.

Alternate Ending: The score keeper notifies everyone when the first player reaches 50 points. At that time each of the other players have one final turn each to try to beat the winner. At the end of these turns, the player with the highest score wins.

Scoring:
20 points: A rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
15 points: A long arc (five colors in a row*)
10 points: A medium arc (four colors in a row**)
5 points: A short arc (three colors in a row***)
15 points: A wide band of color (five of a single color)
10 points: A medium band of color (four of a single color)
5 points: A small band of color (three of a single color)
5 points: The three primary colors (red-yellow-blue)
5 points: The three secondary colors (orange-green-purple)
2 points:  A rainbow end (red or purple)

Alternate Scoring:
To give students more work with larger numbers, multiply all the above scores and the winning number by a factor of ten. For example, a rainbow could be worth 2,000 points, and a player would need 5,000 points to win.

*A long arc: red-orange-yellow-green-blue or orange-yellow-green-blue-purple
**A medium arc: red-orange-yellow-green, orange-yellow-green-blue or yellow-green-blue-purple
***A short arc: red-orange-yellow, orange-yellow-green, yellow-green-blue or green-blue-purple
