The passages presented in this book cover a variety of word skills and real reading situations including narrative, expository, directions, and letters. The passage questions are presented in a typical standardized testing format that targets specific levels of comprehension (literal, inferential, applied, and prediction or judgmental). Each level of comprehension calls for different strategies that are discussed in detail on the pages titled "Levels of Comprehension." It is the authors' contention that children should be made aware of these levels of comprehension tools, which give them an organized approach to answering questions about any given passage.

Also included in this book is a list of Test Taking Tips for students, found on page iv. This list includes many strategies that may be helpful in a variety of test taking situations (true and false, multiple choice, and matching).
